Why do you want to serve on the National Board? How do you see your role on the National Board in this office and as a member of the Board?
I would like to serve on the National Board because I would love to challenge myself and my organization to be the very best that it can be. Throughout my time in Theta Nu Xi I have been privileged to be able to grow on many different levels: as a woman, as a sister, as a leader. Taking the next step into a National Board role would allow me the opportunity to continue that journey. The National Board as a whole is entrusted with the future of the Theta Nu Xi, with the women who are sisters now and those who will be – without a strong leadership team in place we cannot grow and change with the times. Instead of focusing exclusively on the success of individual chapters, National Board members work to extend their vision to the whole organization, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that the traditions of Theta Nu X live on. The National VP for Undergraduate Affairs is integral to that goal. Our GAP women might represent the lifelong sisterhood that Theta Nu Xi provides, but without the initial undergraduate spark none of us would be standing here today. Consistent communication, dedication to helping our undergraduate chapters, and a commitment to connecting our regions – each of these are larges parts of the position and are areas where I could see improvement made.

As apparent from the list above, I appreciate not only my responsibility to the chapter I am in, but to the women of Theta Nu Xi as a whole. The roles you see me taking part in are primarily leadership roles that allow me to work with a variety of women on a diverse number of projects. Success to me, and I think as it contributes to the role of VP for Undergraduate Affairs, has to do with long-term growth and innovation.
How do you view the responsibilities of this office? What (specifically) do you hope to accomplish while holding this office?
I view this office as being responsible for maintaining the professional backing of our undergraduate chapters. The sister holding this office would work with the Regional Directors to ensure that innovative and tenet based programming are continuing to take priority within chapters while keeping sorority at the forefront. We as a National organization ask a lot from our chapters and the sisters within it, and to hold up our end we have to be there to listen, provide feedback, and help pave the way with various different councils and Greek boards. Not everyone will be familiar with the good Theta Nu Xi has and can do, so the VP for Undergraduate Affairs works to communicate that to all appropriate parties.
I think the best thing and the most I could hope for while in office would be to help stabilize our undergraduate chapters. We are growing at a phenomenal rate, which is fantastic, but making sure the chapters we already have are supported is very important. We don’t have a good method in place to help chapters. The ways in which GAP women can work with chapters that have low numbers or are having problems with intake should really be investigated. As school environments and students change we have to be committed to remaining applicable to women and making sure we are growing with the times is part of that. I would love to work with the Regional Directors in creating a line of communication in regards to chapter support teams/intake teams and with the GAP representatives on the board so that in reaching out we don’t expect too much from any one part or person in the organization. If I could even be part of mapping out what we could do to help create a backbone for struggling chapters I would feel like my time in office had been well spend.
