What is your history within Theta Nu Xi? When did you become a member, what types of positions/offices have you held? How have you contributed to your sorority’s success?

I joined Theta Nu Xi in the spring of 2006, as a sophomore at Duke University. During my time with the organization I have held variety of positions, from Webmistress or Education Chair to President and Dean of Intake. I have gravitated and thrived in positions that allow me to help steer the course for my fellow sisters and chapter. I work hard to make sure that sisters remember both the business and sisterhood aspects of being a member of Theta Nu Xi. One cannot be had without the other, and holding workshops on efficiency, initiating conversations about goals and the future, etc.; I have had the pleasure to lead and take part in many activities that further the success of Theta Nu Xi.

What types of qualities do you possess that make you a good leader?

I am a good listener and communicator; I like to incorporate the ideas of the sisters around me while still keeping in mind what is feasible in regards to achieving the ultimate goal. I also have to both dedication to timeliness and efficiency, traits necessary to ensure that activities get done and sisters remain motivated.

Why did you decide to run for National Board?

I decided to run for National Board because with regionalization there have been a number of positions created that are focused on different sisters’ natural aptitudes. I care a great deal about the success and future of my undergraduate sisters. At this time in my life, after being GAP for a few years and settling into the responsibilities at my job, I am confident that my passion for the organization would be best expressed at the National Board level.

If elected, what do you hope to accomplish during your term? Anything you would change, implement, or improve?

I would like to improve the line of communication between undergraduate chapters and the National organization. We have money and initiatives built into our budget to help chapters succeed and I don’t think that fact is presented to chapters in such a way as to inspire them to use it. Additionally I would like to work with the Regional Directors to help chapters improve their programming. Stagnation affects all of us, and working with chapters to create new and innovative programming would not only help retention rates but would also lead towards better intake numbers.

What do you feel are current issue(s) that are facing the sorority and are not being adequately addressed?

I feel that the biggest issues currently facing the sorority are chapter dormancy and rapid widespread growth. While I would never want to see women denied the chance to start a chapter at their university, without some hard looks at the policies and actions the National organization is able to put into to place to help struggling chapters it will mean nothing. Numbers are falling across the board and we have to do try something new for sustained success.

What types of issues do you see yourself encountering within your position, and what course of action would you take to try and resolve them?

I believe most issues will result from growing pains. Maintaining consistency within an organization not only requires adherence to the rules but strict attention to communication. From the past few years we have had issues with hazing, lax Greek Life response, dormant chapters, expansion management – again and again we are being challenged to stay true to who we are. When faced with these issues I am determined to rely not only on my own judgment but to reach out to the sisters around me. The other Board members, the Regional Directors – we have so many years of experience to dip into and working with each of them I am confident that any issues that arise can be resolved the best way possible.
